Nazmeen Akhtar Fine Art: My name is Nazmeen Akhtar and I am a Licentiate Pass in Ceramics at The Society of Designer Craftsmen in London. _________________________________________________________________________ (www.societyofdesignercraftsmen.org.uk). My email address is: nazmeen_1973@hotmail.co.uk ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I am a fine artist who specializes in mixed media 3D artwork that responds to political debates and my work is applicable to both a community and a gallery context. My artwork has been influenced by Muslim women artists such as Ghazel and Zenib Sedira who use their art to make political statements. My practice involves bridge-building across cultural divisions and producing work that breaks down common misconceptions and prejudices resulting from segregation. I would like to become involved in groups where a political or a cultural voice is important, particularly groups concerned with women’s issues. My approach is very personal and subtle but my outcomes are often very focused and inquiring.
